June 11, 2012: ACTTION Public-Private Partnership Expanded

The FDA has approved a major expansion in the scope of the ACTTION public-private partnership. ACTTION will now be named, "Analgesic, Anesthetic, and Addiction Clinical Trial Translations, Innovations, Opportunities, and Networks," and its mission will be "to identify, prioritize, sponsor, coordinate, and promote innovative activities – with a special interest in optimizing clinical trials – that will expedite the discovery and development of improved analgesic, anesthetic, and addiction treatments for the benefit of the public health."

In addition to continuing multiple projects involving treatments for acute and chronic pain, ACTTION is now initiating a program to develop recommendations for the design of clinical trials of procedural, OR, and ICU sedation products. Additional efforts involving drug, alcohol, and nicotine addiction are in the planning stages. Although the ACTTION acronym remains the same, a new logo has been developed to depict the addition of anesthesia and addiction to the scope of the public-private partnership.
