July 24, 2013: Bob Rappaport, MD, Receives FDA Lifetime Achievement Award

Bob A. Rappaport, MD, Director of the Division of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Addiction Products at the US Food and Drug Administration has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the FDA. This scientific achievement award recognizes FDA scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the agency, and this is the first time this new award has been granted. Dr. Rappaport was honored for his lasting contributions to the anesthesia, analgesia, and addiction fields, for his wide-ranging efforts to accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs with improved efficacy and safety, and for his dedication to mentoring a generation of FDA medical officers and future leaders in drug development regulation and regulatory science. In 2010, Dr. Rappaport conceived the ACTTION public-private partnership and arranged for its support from FDA, and he has served on the ACTTION Executive Committee since the partnership was established.
